Yakima Valley at a Glance
As the gateway to Washington
wine country, the Yakima Valley in the center of the state is one of the most
fertile growing areas in the world. The area's 300 days of sunshine each year
is key to making it an agricultural and recreational haven. The Pacific
Crest Trail runs through the Valley. White
Pass Ski Hill is the ultimate for snowboarders and skiers of all skill levels.
The city of Yakima is proud of its
professional sports teams and world-class wineries while smaller centers, like
Prosser and Sunnyside,
are pleased with their own agricultural contributions. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy
visiting the Columbia
River Gorge National Scenic Area, which boasts a 4,000 ft (1219 m) gorge through
the Cascade Mountains. Rock climbing, mountain biking, windsurfing and sightseeing
are popular pastimes in this park.
